Rex Young Panther Legend Award

The Rex Young Panther Legend Awards are bestowed upon a member or members of our graduating classes at PHS who have shown extraordinary leadership and accomplishment in his or her field of endeavor; and for contributions to our society and our country.

The award honors Rex Young, class of ’65 who lost his life while gallantly defending his platoon in Vietnam and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

At the 2026 reunion, we bestowed two Panther Legend Awards, both to members of the PHS class of 1966 and both creative authors with many books to their credit:

  • Linda Cox Page,Minister, teacher and author in the field of early childhood education
  • Jay Miller, Aviation historian and Photographer

Previous Honorees

The first Rex Young Panther Legend Award in 2022 was given to Dr. William F. (Bill) Bennett., PHS66.

T Jay Collins, PHS64, was presented the 2nd Rex Young Panther Legend Award during the 2023 Panther Gathering.

The Panther Legend Award for 2025 went to Paul Rogers, PHS ’66
