The Rex Young Panther Legend Award for 2025 goes to Paul Rogers,’66 , author, Marilyn Jeanne Johnson Distinguished Faculty Fellow and former dean of the SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas.

Paul attended UT-Austin. where he majored in history, then went on to earn his J.D. at the UT School of Law. After practicing law for 3 years in rural Pennsylvania, he attended Columbia University School of Law where he achieved an LL.M. degree. He taught first at Loyola University in Chicago, then moved over to SMU where he has been teaching contract and antitrust law for 45 years. Paul was Dean of the Law School from 1988-1997.
While serving in these demanding roles in legal education at SMU, Paul also found time to serve 38 years as SMU’s Faculty Athletic Representative which would have been a full-time job in itself. In this role, he also served on numerous intermural committees and boards including the NCAA Football Oversight Committee, the Cotton Bowl and was President of the Southwest Conference from 1991-1993.

Paul has written several books on Antitrust law including a magisterial casebook (with William R. Andersen), Antitrust Law: Policy and Practice which is now in its 5th edition.
In addition to his academic and legal publications, Paul has a “minor” in Major League baseball, having produced a series of baseball books including biographies of some of the most storied players in baseball. A lifetime fan of the Phillies, he has established his own genre by co-authoring with the subjects of his biographies, bringing the players voices to the public in an enjoyable and eminently readable style.
